From the New York Times: Even Gifted Students Can’t Keep Up

This editorial describes the continuing challenges of all students to succeed and of gifted students, especially racial or ethnic minority students, not being identified and not getting necessary resources.  Please take a few moments to read this editorial from the Editorial Board.

From the editorial:
Federal, state and local governments and school districts have put little effort into identifying and developing students of all racial and economic backgrounds, both in terms of intelligence and the sheer grit needed to succeed. There are an estimated three million gifted children in K-12 in the United States, about 6 percent of the student population. Some schools have a challenging curriculum for them, but most do not.

Sellwood TAG Parent Group Forming

Sellwood TAG Parent Group Forming
Are you the parent of a TAG student at Sellwood and interested in working with other parents to provide more enrichment for your student? Please send your contact information (name, email, phone number, and grade of TAG student) to Brenda Ray Scott, parent of a sixth grade TAG student, who is gathering this information to get this group up and running. Our goal is to be in communication during the holiday season and hold our first meeting in early January, 2014.
In the meantime, I’ve created a blog found at http://sellwoodtag.blogspot.com/ to share information about Sellwood TAG happenings, PPS TAG Advisory Council news, and other TAG-oriented resources!
Looking forward to working with you to create additional opportunities for TAG students!
